Małgorzata Szyłak is a Polish cinematographer, acclaimed for her work on award-winning documentary and fiction films. She is a member of the European Film Academy (EFA), the Polish Filmmakers Association, and the Polish Society of Cinematographers (PSC).
She graduated in Art History from the University of Warsaw and later from the Cinematography Department of the Polish National Film School in Łódź (PWSFTviT). Since 2022 she has been a PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of PWSFTviT, and from 2025 she has been teaching cinematography there.
She has collaborated with leading directors such as Anna Zamecka (Communion), Anna Jadowska (Wild Roses), Olga Jankowska (Anatomy), Eliza Kubarska (The Last Expedition), Jagoda Łuczaj-Salej (Horse Tail), and Carlos Reygadas (Wake of Umbra – Polish unit). Her films have screened and won awards at major international festivals including Venice (Giornate degli Autori), Locarno, Stockholm, Jihlava, Yamagata, Kolkata, Cottbus, and IDFA in Amsterdam.
Her notable credits include Communion, winner of the European Film Award for Best Documentary, Wild Roses, awarded at the Cottbus and Stockholm Film Festivals, and Anatomy, which premiered in Venice. Her most recent documentary, Personale, premiered at IDFA in 2024.
